Adult Crime, Adult Time

Recently, the “Adult Crime, Adult Time” policy was expanded to cover 33 serious offences as part of the Making Queensland Safer laws.

What is “Adult Crime, Adult Time”?

In simple terms, this policy means that young offenders will face the same penalties as adults when charged with specific serious offences.

Which Offences Are Included?

The expanded list now includes:
  • Accessory after the fact to murder
  • Aggravated attempted robbery
  • Aggravated sexual assault
  • Arson
  • Assault with intent to commit rape
  • Attempt to commit rape
  • Attempted to murder
  • Burglary*
  • Damaging emergency vehicle when operating motor vehicle
  • Dangerous operation of a vehicle*
  • Dangerous operation of vehicle and causes the death or grievous bodily harm to another person*
  • Deprivation of liberty
  • Endangering particular property by fire
  • Endangering police officer when driving motor vehicle
  • Entering or being in premises and committing indictable offences*
  • Going armed so as to cause fear
  • Grievous bodily harm*
  • Kidnapping
  • Kidnapping for ransom
  • Killing unborn child, assaulting pregnant person and destroying the life of, or doing grievous bodily harm to, or transmitting a serious disease to, the child before its birth
  • Manslaughter and Acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm and other malicious acts*
  • Murder*
  • Rape
  • Robbery*
  • Stealing firearm for use in another indictable offence
  • Stealing vehicle
  • Threatening violence
  • Torture
  • Trafficking in dangerous drugs
  • Unlawful entry of a motor vehicle for committing indictable offence*
  • Unlawful striking causing death*
  • Unlawful use or possession of motor vehicles, aircraft or vessels*
  • Wounding and serious assault*
